What Are The Different Types of Sprayer For Trim And Doors?

You can use any type of paint sprayer for trim or doors, but depending on how large your painting project is, you might use one or the other.

HVLP Paint Sprayers

If your project isn’t very large, and you are on a tight budget, then you might want to consider getting an HVLP Paint sprayer. By far, these types of sprayers are the easiest to use and don’t cost a lot of money.

When it comes to trims or doors, the HVLP sprayers deliver a smooth finish and can spray un-thinned paint (you may have to thin the paint before).

Airless Sprayers

If you want to paint your doors or trims fast, and get a professional finish, then buy an airless paint sprayer. Most of the airless sprayers come with a piston pump. This pump gives these sprayers enough power to deal with any type of paint, including un-thinned paint such as latex.

Gravity-Feed Sprayers

These types of sprayers require an air compressor to work. They are used a lot in automotive painting projects, but you can use them for trims and doors too.

Aerosol Spray Cans

If you want to complete your painting project quickly then you can also get a spray can. These are not recommended for large projects, but you can spray a small door or trim with these.

Best Paint Sprayer for Interior Trim

1. HomeRight C800971 – Best Paint Sprayer for Interior Trim

After math of using the HomeRight C800971 to spray trims.

Best Features

  • Easy To Use
  • Three Nozzles
  • Lightweight

If you are looking for a lightweight and portable paint sprayer then you might want to check the HomeRight C800971. This unit only weighs 2.7 pounds and it’s small, I can hold the whole sprayer with my hands.

Although I recommend using it for large projects, this unit will give you great results if you are only planning to use it for small projects (Doors & Trims). It is adjustable, you can adjust the material flow and you can choose three different air caps – horizontal, vertical, and round.

Except for this, it comes with three different nozzles – the 4.00mm, 2.0mm, and 1.5mm nozzle that can be used for different projects. It has different spray patterns that will help you to spray different shaped objects.

In comparison to its older version (Finish Max HomeRight), this one can cover up a 10″x 10″ area with one filling, while the older versions could only cover a 7″ x 10″ area. HomeRight has improved a lot.

What We Liked

  • Improved Version: This sprayer now can spray up to 10″x 10″ with one filling.
  • Beginner-Friendly – Mostly made for homeowners, so it’s easy to use it.
  • Portable – The sprayer is lightweight and small.
  • Three Nozzles – 4.0mm, 2.0mm, 1.5mm.

What We Don’t Like

2. Graco Magnum 262800 – Best Paint Sprayer for Doors

Preparing the Graco Magnum 262800 to spray my doors.

Best Features

  • Durable
  • Fast
  • Adjustable

If you have a large painting project, and you want to complete it fast (and good), then make sure to check the Graco Magnum 262800. This is an airless sprayer, meaning that it doesn’t use air to push the paint, it’s very fast, and it provides a great finish quality.

In comparison to our first pick, this one is much faster. In fact, it can spray up to 0.27 gallons/minute. I have tested this sprayer with un-thinned paint and it can easily spray it, the powerful 1/2 HP universal motor plays a big role in that.

This sprayer is adjustable too, you can adjust the pressure and the material flow, which allows you to use this sprayer for different painting projects. A big reason why we use this sprayer so frequently is that you can use the paint directly from the paint buckets (1 or 5 gallons) and it has a 75 ft paint hose.

Moreover,  the sprayer is designed to spray up to 125 gallons per year, which is more than enough for most of the home projects, plus it’s easy to clean.

On the downside, this sprayer is expensive — I don’t recommend buying it if you only have to complete small painting projects.

What We Liked

  • It’s Fast – It can spray up to 0.27 gallons per minute.
  • Adjustable – You can adjust the pressure and material flow.
  • It Can Spray A lot of Paint- It is designed to spray up to 125 gallons per year.
  • Pressure – The motor delivers up to 3000 PSI.
  • It Can Spray Un-thinned Paint – Thanks to its powerful motor, this spray can deal with un-thinned paint easily.

What We Didn’t Like

  • It costs a lot of money.

3. Wagner 0529021 – Best Paint Sprayer for Interior Doors

  • Stationary Sprayer
  • Turbine
  • Tw0 Nozzles

Whenever we are doing home renovation for our clients we always use the Wagner 0529021, it is a very versatile sprayer that allows us to complete most of the home painting projects.

This paint sprayer comes with two different nozzles. The “iSpray” and the “Detail” nozzle. I use the “iSpray” nozzle whenever I need to paint a surface fast, this nozzle sprays a lot more paint, and I use the detail sander whenever I want to give a small surface the final touch, it delivers a great finish quality. The nozzles have three spray patterns: horizontal, vertical, and round.

This is a stationary paint sprayer, meaning that the turbine stays on the ground and you only have to hold the spray gun (same as our first pick). This can be helpful if you are working on large projects because you will be able to work longer without fatigue.

Like our two first choices, this one is adjustable too.  Thanks to its X-Boost Power feature, this sprayer can easily adjust the pressure and the material flow. Moreover, the turbine has enough room for you to store the spray gun and the two nozzles, which makes this paint sprayer very portable.

On the downside, you have to thin the paint if you plan on using latex or any other thick paint, and using it is harder than the other Wagner products.

What We Liked

  • Stationary Body: The turbine is on the ground so you don’t have to carry it.
  • Two Nozzles – iSpray and Detailing that come with different spray patterns.
  • Portable – The turbine has enough space for you to store the spray gun and nozzles.

What We Didn’t Like

  • It’s hard to use it, especially if you are a beginner.

  • Easy To Use
  • Two Air Filters
  • Adjustable

If you are looking for a paint sprayer that it’s easy to use, then the Wagner Spraytech 0518080 could be an excellent choice for you.  We use this sprayer because it uses less pressure while pushing through a huge amount of paint.

As a home-owner-made paint sprayer, you can use this unit for almost every home painting project. Except for doors or trim, I used this sprayer with prime and latex paint and I got a smooth finish, a huge reason why this sprayer can deliver un-thinned latex paint is that it comes with a two-stage motor (you might have to thin some types of paint).

It is fully adjustable, meaning that you can adjust the pressure and the material flow, this is helpful if you plan to use the sprayer for different projects. You can also choose between vertical, horizontal, and round sprayer tips.

In comparison to other Wagner stationary sprayers, this one comes with a 20ft. hose while the others only have an 11 ft. hose. This is a big improvement because it allows you to work without having to move the whole sprayer.

On the downside, the over-spraying problems haven’t been fixed, that’s mainly because this sprayer uses an HVLP system, and these types of systems are known for over-spraying.

What We Liked

  • Powerful Motor: It has a two-stage motor.
  • Adjustable Settings:  It allows you to adjust pressure, material flow, and sprayer tips.
  • Air Filters: It has two air filters. These filters keep the dust away most of the time.
  • Easy To use: I find this sprayer very easy to work with.

What We Didn’t Like

  • If not careful you can easily over-spray an surface.

Your home is the place where you spend most of your time. It’s where you will create a lot of memories. A lot of people visit your house, and you want them to enjoy themselves while they are there.

One of the best ways to paint your doors or trim is to use a paint sprayer, they are fast, easy to use, and give you a nice finish quality. Of course, there are many other ways to do that task such as using a paint roller or brush, but you will get the best results with a paint sprayer.

We have listed the 4 best paint sprayers for trim and doors, but which one should you choose? If you haven’t made a decision yet, here are the things that you should look into –

Power

The first thing that you need to look into is power. Usually, the pressure and horsepower are the things that determine if the sprayer is powerful enough.

If the sprayer has more power then you will be able to complete larger surfaces faster, plus more power means that the paint sprayer can spray thick materials such as latex paints. So, if you are planning to use thick paint, then a powerful sprayer is needed.

Hose

As you can see, I mentioned the length of the hose for all the paint sprayers I have listed here.  Having a long paint hose is very important, especially for home projects.

With a long hose, you will be able to move around without having to move the whole paint sprayer with you. That makes the painting your trim doors process easier.

Weight

If you choose a powerful paint sprayer then most likely they will be heavy, that’s because it has a bigger motor.  So, if you are looking for a powerful paint sprayer then be prepared to deal with a heavy one.

On the other hand, if you buy a lightweight paint sprayer then you will be dealing with a sprayer that doesn’t have a lot of power.

This can be good if you are planning to use the sprayer only for trim and doors. If you are planning to use a sprayer for larger projects then a powerful one is needed.
