Roofing Tool Belt Buyers Guide

As I said before, tool belts come on different sizes, material, color, etc. So choosing the right one isn’t always easy, there are a lot of factors you need to consider before deciding to buy one.

By looking into different factors your chances of getting a high-quality tool belt are higher. That’s why we made a list to show you all the things you need to check before buying one.

Why does a roofer need a tool belt? Well, it helps you organize and carry your tools around. That's why roofing tool belts are important to have. If you don't have one make sure to read our post and check the ones we recommended.

Material – First things first, a tool belt needs to have high-quality material. A tool belt with high-quality material means that the tool will last longer. There are many high-quality materials. The one I recommend is leather. Leather material is long-lasting and it will give the tool belt a nice look.

Although there are a few minor problems when it comes to leather material. They are quite heavy so you will be carrying more dead weight and they can make you sweat a lot. If you are not interested in sweating and carrying dead weight then you can always go for soft leather, nylon, or any other material that the tool belts we listed have. They might not be as long-lasting as leather, but they sure do have their pros.

Another thing that you should check is the stitching. Since you will be carrying heavy tools all the time then the chances of the stitching to come off are high. That’s why to prevent that a tool belt needs to have stitches on stress points.

Weight – Before checking weight, you need to check the size. You need a tool belt that fits your waist. Usually, the size is provided by the manufacturer. They are measured on inches. Each tool belt fits a range of waist sizes, make sure to check if the tool belt you want to buy fits your waist size.

The weight should be considered too as it will have a direct impact on your performance. If possible, buy one that is lightweight. That will help you move around easily and you won’t be carrying any dead weight. And having a heavy tool belt can cause you some back pain.

Pockets – The quality of the tool belt and the weight are one thing, but the number of pouches is another thing. After all, you need a tool belt to carry around your tools, so more pockets means more space, and more space means you can carry more tools.

Always the first thing you need to check is the number of pouches, how big and deep they are and are they easily accessed.  I like my tool belt to have as many pockets as possible, that how I can fit all my tools.

But how many tool belt pockets do you need? Let me tell you a simple rule I follow to find out

A simple but effective strategy is to count your most needed tools before buying a tool belt. Once you figured out how many tools you need to carry then you can start looking for a tool belt that has enough space to fit all your tools plus more.  Except for pouches, a tool belt should also have a hammer holder, a tape measure holder/pocket and sometimes a portable drill holder.

Security – A tool belt needs to be secure. After all, there are going to be a lot of sharp tools there that can injure you. A tool belt needs to have extra stitches and high-quality material to prevent sharp tools from touching your body.  It also needs to have deep pouches so the tools can’t spill.

And that’s it:

Sure, there are a lot of other things you should check, but these 4 things are the most important ones.  All the tools I have listed on the best tool belts for roofers list have high-quality material, are lightweight, have a lot of pockets and are secure. So, if you haven’t bought a tool belt already then make sure to give one of our recommendations a try.
