More detailed review ↴

If you are a hobbyist woodworker or own a small local shop then the Rikon 10-305 is the perfect choice when it comes to benchtop bandsaw.  This bandsaw is big enough to complete any of your small to medium tasks.

What makes this unit special is that its frame is made of steel plate and not plastic like we are used to seeing to Rikon Bandsaw models. This gives the unit more stability and longer life.

But, the steel frame makes the bandsaw heavier, which makes this unit take a small hit when it comes to portability. This unit approximately weighs 75 pounds.  It also has a large cast-iron table and a dust port for vacuum hookup.

The Rikon 10-305 comes with rip fences, you can easily remove these fences if you ever need to do free handwork. This model has enough power for small to medium tasks, it comes with a 1/3 HP motor. Moreover, it also allows you to tilt the table for 0-45 degree cuts.

On the downside, the stand and miter gauge are not included. You will have to separately buy them.

Pros:

  • Small – Perfect for hobbyists and shop owners.
  • Motor – Includes a 1/3 HP Motor.
  • Frame – The Frame is made of steel plate.
  • Table – Comes with a cast iron table
  • Allows you to tilt the table.
  • Comes with rip fences.

Cons:

  • No Miter Gauge Included.
  • No Stand Included.

Bandsaws are known to be very effective when it comes to cutting wood, but did you know that you can use a bandsaw to cut metal? Some models are specially made for metal cutting, and one of them is the WEN 3975T.

The thing that makes this benchtop band saw special is the design — it comes with a very unique design that makes the cutting and the transporting process very easy. The design makes the unit very portable which allows you to use this same bandsaw at work and in your house for hobby projects.

The WEN 3975T comes with a 4.5 amp motor, the motor has enough power to cut through any metal with ease. This band-saw is also fast, it comes with adjustable speed control from 125 to 260 FPM.

Being able to adjust the speed allows you to work with different materials. Moreover, it comes with beveling blades that allow you to make angled cuts from 0-60 degrees.

On the downside, I find it very hard to make straight cuts with this one.

Pros:

  • Cuts Metal – This model is made for metal cutting.
  • Great Design – Makes the cutting process easier.
  • Portable – Thanks to the design and its weight you can easily transport it.
  • Powerful – Includes a 4.5 amp Motor.
  • Adjustable – You can adjust the speed from 120 to 260 FPM.

Cons:

  • Hard To Make Straight Cuts

Another bandsaw that is made from the WEN company. This is a very known company when it comes high-quality bandsaw. The next bandsaw in our list is the WEN 3962. This one is good for small, medium, and large projects. It can lack a little bit if it is a heavy-duty project.

The WEN 3962 comes with a powerful 3.5 amp motor that has a two-speed setting. You can run the blade at either 1520 or 2620 FPM depending on your project size.

Like the previous model, this one too allows you to tilt the table up to 45-degrees if you ever need angled cuts.  It comes with a ball-bearing construction that gives the unit stability and longer life. Moreover, it has a 3-in-1 dust port.

What I like most about this model is the work light. It comes with a work light that will light up the table if you are working in dark spaces.

On the downside, I don’t like the miter gauge — looks like a cheap one.

Pros:

  • Powerful – Comes with a 3.5 amp motor.
  • Two-Speed Settings – You can either run it at 1520 or 2620 FPM.
  • Durable – Comes with ball-bearing construction.
  • Table – You can tilt the table up to 45-degrees.
  • Dust Port – 3-in-1 dust port.

The next bandsaw on our list is the SKIL 3386-01. This one is a small bandsaw, it’s only 9-inches but it does the job. If you have a small workshop then you will find this one very helpful. It doesn’t cost a lot of money, you don’t have to break the bank to buy it.

What I like most about this 9-inch band saw is that it comes with a rip fence and miter gauge. These things will help you to make straight and accurate cuts. But, you can cut irregular shapes just as easy.

The benchtop band saw is very portable — approximately it weighs 16 pounds so you can easily move it around. It comes with a good 2.5 amp motor that comes with 2800 SFPM.

The rack and the pinion table are adjustable, if you have to make angled cuts then you can adjust the table.  It also has some LED lights that will help you see what you are doing while working. The 1-1/2 inch dust port does a great job too.

On the downside, this bandsaw isn’t recommended for heavy-duty projects. Works great for small and medium projects.

Pros:

  • Small – Great for small projects.
  • Rip Fence – Helps you to make straight and accurate cuts.
  • Lightweight – The bandsaw approximately weighs 16 pounds.
  • Motor – 2.5 amp motor that comes with 2800 SFPM.
  • Capacity – The max cutting depth capacity is 3-1/2 inches.
  • Adjustable Pinion Table – Allows you to change the height and angle of the cuts.
  • LED Light

Cons:

  • Not recommended for large projects.

This bandsaw comes with a powerful motor that can help you cut through a lot of materials with ease. It includes a 1.75 HP motor power with a single phase. The speed is 3000 FPM.

The results are phenomenal with this band-saw, it makes straight and precise cuts that will make you feel that the saw is on auto-pilot.

It has computer-balanced wheels that reduce the vibrating while working and it allows you to tilt the table up to 45-degrees. It comes with a cast-iron frame.

On the downside, this is pricey for a lot of people.

Best Table Top Bandsaw -Buyers Guide

Are you looking for the best table top bandsaw? If yes, then you came to the right place. We have made buyers guide where we listed all the things that you should check before buying a tabletop bandsaw.

We have tried our best to list different units here that come with different qualities. But, some people still don’t know which one to pick, and that’s okay.  Choosing a benchtop bandsaw isn’t easy so you should always take your time and see which unit fits your needs.

To make things easier for you, we have decided to list some things that you need to focus on when choosing a benchtop band-saw:

Power

One of the most important things that you need to check when buying a bandsaw is power. The power usually determines how fast the bandsaw is. The faster the better, right?

We can’t give you the exact speed/power your bandsaw should have because it depends on the projects you are working on.

But, most of the benchtop bandsaws come with a 1 HP motor and that’s good enough. I don’t recommend buying anything below 1 HP.  If you have to do large projects then you should check for units that come with more than 1 HP of power.

Tip: If you buy a benchtop bandsaw with more than 1 HP Motor power then the speed should be adjustable — meaning that you should be able to change the speed to match the project you are working on.

The speed is measured with FPM — the more FPM the faster the bandsaw rotates per minute.

Ease Of Use

Every bandsaw model is different. Some of them come with some features and some come with other features.  But, what every band-saw needs is good user experience.

If the users are able to use the band-saw with ease to complete the project they want then that’s a good user experience. And how’s that archived? With controls.

I believe that the more controls the bandsaw has the better it is. As I mentioned earlier, if you buy a powerful benchtop bandsaw then the speed should be adjustable. Being able to change the speed to match it to the project you are working on is a huge bonus.

You should look for bandsaw’s that come with adjustable rack and tables that allow you to make angled cuts. Accessories such as a light lamp, rip fences, etc,  help you a lot.

Teeth Per Inch (TPI)

Teeth are the number of pokey thorns on your blade.  The TPI is measured by the number of teeth in an inch.  TPI is also called Pitch.

The pitch is one of the most important factors when choosing a bandsaw. There are different types of teeth a bandsaw blade can have — coarse, medium, fine. And depending on the material you are working on, you can choose one or the other.

A rule of thumb that you can follow when selecting your TPI is that the coarse the blade is the faster it will cut. But, you should expect a rougher finish. On the other hand, the finer the blade is the more precise and clean the finish will be.

We recommend using the coarser blade on thicker materials and using the finer blade for thinner materials.

Portability

Everyone has different needs. Some people want to work outside with a bandsaw and some people want to work inside their garage. Whatever your choice is, the bandsaw should be portable to allow you to move to one place or the other.

Bandsaws don’t have a standard weight they must meet. Some of these units are very heavy and some of them are very light. If you have to move the bandsaw a lot, then choosing a lighter one is a smart idea.

Frame Material

The material frame doesn’t play a big role in the work quality of the bandsaw. But, it plays a big role in the weight, stability, and strength of the unit.

There are bandsaws that are made of plastic frames. These are good, but not good enough. They cost less and they are lighter but they are not very stable and tend to break a lot. On the other hand, bandsaws that are made of steel frames cost more and are heavier, but they are very stable and very durable.

Blade Guard & Tensioning System

I’m sure that you already know that band saws are dangerous.  If you are not careful enough you can easily harm yourself. That’s why it’s important to have a unit that comes with safety measurements.

Blade guarding is one of them. What the blade guard does is that it minimizes the contact between your body and the saw, therefore it reduces the chances of anything bad happening.

Another good feature that the benchtop bandsaw should have is the blade tensioning system. This feature securely holds the blade in one place (after you place it on the bandsaw) and prevent it from slipping or accidentally jumping.  A blade that isn’t secured that easily jump off its place and cause a lot of trouble.

FAQ’s

Here we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about benchtop bandsaws.

  • Are benchtop bandsaws worth it?

Yes. This tool will help you a lot to complete your projects faster. Moreover, it’s very easy to work with, you can easily move it around, and it has a longer lifespan.

  • Do benchtop bandsaws come with wheels?

Not every model. Some of the benchtop models don’t come with wheels.  But, some of them do. The wheels are used to help you move the unit easier. If you have to move the bandsaw a lot then it’s recommended to get a bandsaw with wheels.

  • How do I maintain my benchtop bandsaw?

You should always use the bandsaw only for materials that it can cut. If you have a small benchtop bandsaw then you shouldn’t use it to cut very thick materials.

You should always unplug the unit when you are not using it. And, you should always clean up the dirt and dust after each use. This alone will give the tool a longer life.
