If you are looking for a detail sander that will help you complete your projects fast then you should check BLACK+DECKER BDEMS600.

What I like most about this detail sander is its size — it is small and lightweight. Because of its size, you can easily control it and it doesn’t take a lot of space when you store it. The 3-position grip that this sander has helps a lot with controlling too.

Another great thing about this sander is the finger attachment — if the triangle head doesn’t fit into very tight corners then you can use the finger attachment. The finger attachment is located in front of the sander.

This sander comes with a 1.2 amp motor, the motor has enough power for most of the detailing jobs. The motor delivers up to 14,000 OPM.

On the downside, the dust collector is good, but if you are working with a very rusted surface then you have to clean the dust canister a lot.

Pros:

  • Small – It doesn’t take a lot of space when storing
  • 3-positions – It allows you to control the sander easier.
  • Finger Attachment – You can use the finger attachment for very tight spaces.
  • Motor – 1.2 amp motor that delivers 14,000 OPM.
Cons:

  • Small dust canister.

If you have to work outside or somewhere that doesn’t have electricity then you need a cordless detail sander.  There are great cordless models available, but the one I prefer the most is the PORTER-CABLE PCCW201B.

A big reason why I prefer cordless detail sanders is that you are not limited by the cord — if you are dealing with high areas then you can easily reach them. The only downside is that you have to recharge the battery a lot.

What I like most about this sander is the adjustable speed settings — you can adjust the speed from 9,000 to 12,000 to match it with the project you are working on.

Another great thing about this one is the dust collection system — it comes with a dust bag that you can attach whenever you want, and if you want a more efficient collection then you can also connect the sander with your vacuum.

On the downside, you have to buy the battery separately.

Pros:

  • Cordless – You don’t need a power outlet nor be limited by a cord.
  • Adjustable Speed – You can adjust the speed from 9,000 to 14,000 OPM.
  • Comfortable  – Comes with a rubberized grip.
  • Dust Collector – It comes with a detachable dust bag.
Cons:

  • The battery isn’t included.

If you are a person who works on different projects and have a problem with finding the right type of sander then you should check BLACK+DECKER MS2000. This machine is literally 4 sanders into 1.

You can change the base of the sander and transform the sander into a: detail sander, finish sander, random orbit sander, and 1/4 sheet sander.

After you change the base you have to click only one button and then you are ready to go. This is a great tool for DIYers and homeowners who have to deal with different surfaces.

It comes with a smart select dial that allows you to adjust the speed of the 4 sanders. The detail sander version comes with a finger attachment that you can use to sand small corners or hard to reach areas.

On the downside, I don’t recommend using this sander for large/heavy projects.

Pros:

  • 4-in-1 – With a click of a button you can change the sander type  (after you attach the base).
  • Versatile – It is transformed into detail, finish, random orbit, and 1/4 sheet sander.
  • Adjustable Speed – The smart select dial allows you to adjust the speed.
  • Finger Attachment – Used for the detail sander to sand small and hard to reach corners.
Cons:

  • Not recommended for heavy projects.

If you are looking for a small detail sander that will get the job done then check WEN 6301.  This sander is lightweight and yet powerful, making it perfect for DIYers and small projects.

The WEN 6301 comes with a 1 amp motor that delivers up to 13,500 OPM. Although the sander doesn’t offer adjustable speed, the sander does a good job of removing unwanted materials.

What I like most about this tool is the velcro base pad — this pad allows you to easily remove the sanding paper and replace it.

Another thing that I loved is the dust collection system, it has a very effective system that minimizes the sawdust. You can attach the dust system to a dust bag or vacuum cleaner.

On the downside, the dust bag isn’t included so you have to buy it separately.

Pros:

  • Small – Good for tight corners and doesn’t take a lot of space.
  • Fast – Its 1 amp motor delivers up to 13,500 OPM.
  • Velcro Base Pad – You can easily remove the sandpaper and re-install it.
  • Effective Dust Collection System

Best Triangle Sanders — Buyers Guide

As you may know, detail sanders are used a lot, and that means that there are a lot of models available. Most of the detail sanders that you see on the market are low-quality, especially the cheap ones.

One of the most used sanders are the mouse sanders. These type of sanders are made for corners and hard to reach areas. In our best triangle sanders, we included different models. Most of these machines are small and lightweight, so storing them won't be a problem.

To help you find a high-quality detail sander we made the list that you saw above. But, that alone may not be enough for some people. That’s why to help you make a better decision, we have decided to make a buyer list where we will list all the features that you need to check before buying a detail sander.

Orbit Speed

Speed is an important factor when choosing a sander. It determines how fast can you complete a project.

When it comes to detail sanders then you should check the OPM (orbits per minute). I prefer detail sanders that come with adjustable speed — which means that you will be able to change the speed based on your needs.

Orbit sanders don’t need a lot of speed, the normal rate is 8,000 – 12,000 OPM. A reason for that is because these types of sanders are used for detail jobs only, so high speed isn’t required.

Motor Power

Just like speed, motor power is also an important factor. Usually, the more power the sander has the faster it is.  For detail sanders, I recommend choosing one that comes with a normal motor — not too low or too powerful.

If you choose a low motor then you won’t be able to complete your projects fast, and if you choose a powerful motor then you won’t be able to complete your detailed projects.  Powerful motors are needed only when you have to remove paint fast.

I recommend choosing sanders that come with 0.8-1.5 amp motor.

Weight

Usually, these types of sanders are used to give the surface the last touch. They have to be precise and easy to carry around.  That’s why I recommend buying a lightweight detail sander.

In most cases, you will be dealing with tight corners and hard-to-reach areas, if you have a small and lightweight sander then you can easily work longer and reach these areas. Moreover, small and lightweight detail sanders fit perfectly into your hands, and you can control them easier.

On the other hand, heavy and large detail sanders are not recommended. Unless the surface is very large and it would take forever to complete if you use a small sander.

Price

Whenever we want to accept it or not, price plays a big role when we want to buy something. When it comes to detail sanders, you can get one no matter what budget you have.

If you are planning to do a lot of projects, then I recommend buying an expensive option — these types of sanders come with a lot more features that will help you a lot.

On the other hand, if you are planning on using the sander only for a small project then you should go for a cheap option.

Personally, I would buy a detail sander that has an average price — not too cheap or too expensive.

Durability & Accessories

If you spend a lot of money on a tool then you want it to last, right? That’s why you should pick a durable sander.

Usually, the material that of the tool determines if the tool is durable or not. I prefer to buy sanders that are made of aluminum or metal. Personally, I avoid sanders that come with a plastic case or body.

And last but not least, I check the accessories. Different models come with different accessories — some come with extra sandpaper, some come with cases, etc.

Although this isn’t a deal-breaker, it’s still important to get the best deal that you can. If you find a detail sander that fills your needs and comes with a lot of accessories then don’t hesitate on buying it.

What is a detail sander used for?

The best way to explain detail sanders is that they are made to reach areas where normal sanders can’t. They come with a triangle head that can reach corners without any problem.

Usually, these types of sanders come with smaller motors. They are not used to aggressively remove paint. Most of the time, they are used to give the surface one last touch before painting.

Because of that, detail sanders are not as fast as normal sanders.  They don’t vibrate as much as the others, and that’s why we are used for detailed projects.
