“Super Finish Max” is a great paint sprayer produced by “HomeRight”, also a good paint sprayer company. Actually, I have another “HomeRight” paint sprayer listed on my top 5 best paint sprayers for kitchen cabinets.

I have used this paint sprayer for almost everything, starting from paint spraying my client’s kitchen cabinets, to spraying their walls, etc. [ I’m a professional painter, soon to be retired tho].

What makes this paint sprayer special is that it requires less thinning if you compare it to other models. This means that this model not only can handle small projects but thanks to the powerful 450 Watts of power motor this model can also be used for big painting projects and it can handle thicker paintings.

You can use it with 6 different spray tips, three of them are included in the package [1.5mm, 2.0mm, and 4.0mm]. The 2.0mm is installed on the paint sprayer.

It’s easy to use. You don’t need any previous experience with paint sprayers. You can easily set it up and once you are done it won’t take you much to clean it too.  A top pick for do-it-yourselfers. It also has an air turbine, so you don’t need an air compressor to use it.

It’s an HVLP Paint Sprayer. That means that it uses low pressure to provide a high volume of paint. The HVLP paint sprayers by nature don’t overspray an object. There’s no exception here.

What We Liked:

  • Perfect for kitchen cabinets and any other small to big painting projects.
  • Produced by a great paint sprayer company “HomeRight”
  • HVLP Paint Sprayer – Doesn’t overspray
  • Three spray tips included – 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 4.0mm.
  • 450W of power motor
  • Easy to use
  • Lightweight

What We Didn’t Like:

  • The paint from the spray patterns come off easy

If you never used a paint sprayer before, and decide to paint your kitchen cabinets by yourself, then you need a paint sprayer that is easy to use. This paint sprayer is recommended almost by every painting blog. It gives you a smooth and professional finish, and at the same time, it’s easy to set up.
It won’t take you more than 5 minutes to set it up. Paint spraying with this is easy, it’s made for DIYers, and for people who don’t have a lot of experience with sprayers. It’s a famous model, which means that there are a lot of different Youtube videos that will show you how to use it, and fix any trouble that you may face.
It’s easy to clean as well. It’s lightweight [only weights a couple of pounds]. And, it has a simple but effective design that will fit perfectly into your hands and will allow you to paint spray for a long time without fatigue.

One of the best things about this model is that has an air turbine. So, that means that you don’t need to buy an air compressor in order to paint spray with it. This is good, especially if you are a beginner since you don’t need to spend a lot of time finding the right pressure for your paint sprayer or spend money on buying a good air compressor.

It has three spray patterns: horizontal, vertical, and round that you can use for different surfaces. It can hold up to 27 ounces of paint inside, so you don’t have to stop to refill the paint every 5 minutes.
Except for the paint sprayer, you will also get an air nozzle, a cleaning brush that will help you to clean the paint sprayer faster, and a viscosity cup.

What We Liked:

  • Perfect for Kitchen Cabinets
  • User-friendly – Easy to use even if you are a beginner.
  • Easy to set up
  • Recommended by almost every other paint spraying blog
  • Doesn’t need an air compressor
  • It can hold up to 27 ounces of paint!
  • Lightweight

What We Didn’t Like:

  • Spends more paint than a paint roller

3. FLEXiO 590 Sprayer – Best Spray Gun For Kitchen Cabinets

Best Features Wagner...

  • User-friendly
  • Lightweight
  • iSpray Technology

My Overall Rating

The “FLEXiO 590 Sprayer” comes with a powerful turbine that can be used outside and inside. You will get a high-quality finish color whenever you are painting outside or inside.

I used it for different painting projects, especially to paint kitchen cabinets. I always get a professional and smooth finish, because it can spray unthinned paint. It makes the cabinets look even better–fabric made.
To make the finish quality even better, this paint sprayer model uses the iSpray Technology (very few paint sprayers have this feature). What this feature does is provide 60% more airflow that will help you to get even a better finish quality. So when it comes to the finish quality the “Flexio 590” is at the top.

It comes with 9 different speeds, that you can use/change depending on the project you are working on. It also comes together with 2 different nozzles, the iSpray nozzle which we talked about earlier, and the detail finish nozzle.

I usually use the iSpray nozzle when I have to spray un-thinned paint and use the detail nozzle for smaller projects. Also, the detail nozzle has three different spray patterns the horizontal, round and vertical pattern.

It has two different paint cups (small and big), that you can use depending on your painting project size. Another good feature that will help you complete the project better is that this paint sprayer is 50% quieter.

You don’t have to rush to complete the task faster since a lot of times the paint sprayer sound annoys other family members. It’s 20% lighter than most paint sprayers, this will help you to complete the project faster without getting tired.
This paint sprayer also has an X-Boost Turbine which is three times more powerful than other paint sprayers. This gives you the opportunity to paint spray almost any object without any problem.

The X-Boost Power Dial gives you the opportunity to adjust the pressure so you can adapt it for your painting project.  I use the min-3 for small tasks, the min 4-7 for medium painting projects such as latex paint, and the 7 for big painting projects such as painting thick latex.

What We Liked:

  • Perfect for kitchen cabinets
  • 20% lighter than other traditional paint sprayers
  • 50 % quieter than other traditional paint sprayers
  • iSpray Technology – Provides 60% more airflow that will give you even a better finish quality.
  • X-boost Turbine – 3 times more powerful turbine than other normal paint sprayers
  • Two different nozzles – iSpray Nozzle & The Detail Finish Nozzle
  • Three different spray patterns – Horizontal, Vertical, Round.

What We Didn’t Like:

  • If you are not careful it can over-spray an object due to the powerful motor that it has.

If you want a paint sprayer that you can use for home decor such as painting your kitchen cabinets, stains, etc, then the Wagner 0529033 is perfect for you.

It’s the perfect upgrade from paint rollers. A lot of times faster than a paint roller. It creates a smooth finish that doesn’t leave any brush marks. A small paint sprayer but a powerful one. I have used it from small to medium painting projects and it gave me great results. But I don’t recommend using it for big painting projects.

It’s lightweight, you can easily move it around especially if you need to spay tight surfaces. It also comes with a 6ft hose that helps you to move easily around the workplace without having to plug and unplug.

Simplest paint sprayer I have ever used. Even my wife [ who never used a paint sprayer before ] found it very easy to use. You just have to fill in the paint and you will be ready to paint. Although if you use milk, chalk-type, or any other decorative paintings, you may need to thin it before.

It comes with three spray patterns horizontal and vertical: that are great for painting buffets and dresses. And the narrow pattern that I use to paint spray chair legs. It also has paint-saving controls.

What We Liked:

  • Perfect for home decor – It’s actually made only to spray home objects such as kitchen cabinets, etc.
  • Easy to use – You just have to fill the paint and you will be able to paint spray with it.
  • Lightweight – You can hold it for hours without fatigue
  • Small but yet powerful – You can move easily around with this paint sprayer especially if you have to paint tight surfaces.
  • Three spray patterns – Horizontal, Vertical, Narrow
  • Faster than paint rollers

What We Didn’t Like:

  • Can only be used for small to medium tasks.

5. Graco Ultra Corded 17M359 Best DIY Airless Paint Sprayer for Kitchen Cabinets

Best Features Graco Ultra...

  • Easy To Use
  • Airless Paint Sprayer
  • Professional Finish

My Overall Rating

More detailed review ↴

The finish quality isn’t the reason why I listed this airless paint sprayer as the #5 choice for the best paint sprayer for kitchen cabinets. Because to be honest this paint sprayer has a better finish quality than the first four choices.

The one and the only reason why this paint sprayer is #5 is because of its price. It costs 2x more than the other paint sprayers here. But, if you don’t mind paying more then I totally recommend you to get this one.

This is an airless paint sprayer so that means that it will make a lot of noise, it is recommended to use it outside. This Airless paint sprayer is made for small projects. So it’s the perfect choice for kitchen cabinets, and many other home projects. But it’s not limited to them.

It’s fast. I mean really fast. You will be able to complete a small task fast. It sprays unthinned paint so the finish quality is smooth and professional.

This paint sprayer is made from “Graco” a good company for airless paint sprayers. A good thing about this is that they have their own youtube channel where they show you to use their products. Here is their youtube channel.

It’s Fully Repairable. Almost every part of this paint sprayer can be replaced/fixed, so you will be set for life if you buy this one.

What We Liked:

  • Perfect For Kitchen Cabinets and Home Decor
  • Easy To Use – Have their own youtube channel where they show you how to use every model
  • Fully Repairable – You can fix/replace almost every part of this paint sprayer
  • Professional Finish – I have seen many painting contractors using only this one to complete different tasks.

What We Didn’t Like:

  • It’s expensive – Cost more than the other 4 models, but it has a better finish quality.

What to Consider When Choosing a Paint Sprayer for Cabinets?

There are a few things you need to consider before buying a paint sprayer for cabinets. Here are a few things that are worth checking:

Project Size

The project size will determine what type of sprayer you will choose. If you have a small kitchen and small cabinets, then go for a smaller paint sprayer.

Usually, small paint sprayers cost less and will give you the same results. But, if you use them a lot they can easily get damaged.

If you are planning a large painting project, then go for an airless paint sprayer. These types of sprayers are made for professional and large projects.

You will get a professional finish, you will complete the job faster, and you can spray unthinned paint. But, airless paint sprayers tend to cost more.

Adjustable Settings

This is a feature that your paint sprayer should have. This feature allows you to change the paint flow, the pressure, and many other things.

It makes the sprayer more versatile and allows you to use the same sprayer for different projects. Most of the high-quality sprayers have this.

Ease of Use

If you are a beginner you want a sprayer that’s easy to use. Usually, the handheld HVLP sprayers are very easy to use. There are some models, such as our first and second pick, that are made for beginners.

These types of sprayers are easy to use and come with a very good manual that will teach you everything.

Pro tip: Go for a large brand, these types of brands have their own Youtube channels where you can learn how to use their products.

While spraying cabinets, you can use different paint. Latex paint, oil-based paints, water-based paints are just some of the picks you can choose.

But, not every sprayer can spray these types of paints. A paint sprayer should have a lot of power to deal with unthinned paint.

If you are planning to use unthinned paint then go for an airless paint sprayer. These types of sprayers come with a piston pump that gives the sprayer the power to deal with any kind of paint.

HVLP sprayers are good too, but you might need to thin the paint before you spray it.

How to Use a Sprayer to Paint Kitchen Cabinets?

I’m gonna explain how to paint your kitchen cabinets with a few words. If you want a detailed guide about this, then make sure to check our post on how to paint your kitchen cabinets.

Clear Your Cabinets

First things first, start by cleaning the cabinets. Remove everything that’s inside your kitchen cabinets. Those things will only slow you down, and you will probably end up harming them, so the best and the safest way is to remove everything.

Remove Cabinets

After you clean and remove everything inside, now you have to remove the cabinets, doors, and everything that’s removable. Make sure to label them so once you are done, you will put them back in their place easier.

Sand and Prime The Cabinets

If you want a good finish quality then you have to sand the cabinets. I usually use 20-grit sandpaper to do it. Or you can use a sander for this too. If you don’t have one, you can check the post about the best sander for kitchen cabinets that we made.

Make sure that once you are done sanding to re-clean the cabinets since there will be a lot of dust.  Once you are done sanding you can prime the cabinets.

Paint the cabinets & Re-install them

Now it’s time to paint the cabinets. Try to stay 10-12 inches away from the cabinets. Don’t spray at the same place for a long time. You may over-spray the cabinets, try to move the hand every 1-2 seconds.  And when I say “Move your hand” I literally mean move your hand, don’t just move your wrist, that will make you get tired faster. Move your hand completely

And once you have paint sprayer your cabinets, and waited for the paint to dry, now it’s time to re-install them. I hope you followed my advice to label them. If not, then it will take you longer to find where cabinets belong.

And this is how you paint sprayer your kitchen cabinets. Clearly, this is a short version. We have made a big detailed guide and we have posted it on our website. Make sure to check it out.

HVLP Paint Sprayers vs Airless Paint Sprayers

HVLP paint sprayers or Airless Paint Sprayers? Well, overall you should go for HVLP's if you decide to use them only for small tasks such as painting your kitchen. HVLP's are faster and cheaper and a lot of times they provide better quality. Airless paint sprayers are more for big painting projects and they are expensive. But our #5 choice in our Best DIY Airless Paint Sprayer for Kitchen Cabinet is a small DIY airless paint sprayer that is made for small painting projects. So, in overall go for HVLP's when you have to paint kitchen cabinets, but in this case, you should go for our #5 choice if you have the money.

I have listed some HVLP paint sprayers on my list for the best paint sprayer for kitchen cabinets, but I have also listed an airless paint sprayer.

So, what is the best spray gun for kitchen cabinets? It depends, both HVLP and Airless paint sprayers have their advantages and disadvantages.

I’m sure that you are confused about these terms. But let me explain to you what they are and their differences …

HVLP Painter Sprayers

The HVLP means High Volume Less Pressure. In other words, it means that it uses less pressure to shoot a lot of paint. They are usually used for small to medium painting projects, although some models can still be used for big painting projects.

Most of the HVLP paint sprayers allow you to control the fan and the flow, which means that you can save a lot of paint. HVLP paint sprayers from “Nature” don’t over-spray an object. So, that means that you will be spending less paint with HVLP paint sprayers.

Airless Paint Sprayers

According to its name you probably have guessed that these paint sprayers don’t use air. Therefore they are louder and it’s recommended to use them outside.

They are more made for bigger painting projects, although there are some models that are made for small tasks. Their paint output is big and that’s the reason why people use them for larger surfaces.

When it comes to speed, HVLP paint sprayers are faster. There are some airless painter sprayers who are faster than HVLP’s but overall HVLP’s are faster.  And the price of an airless paint sprayer is higher.

TIP: You can learn here more about HVLP vs Airless Paint Sprayers

So, should you use airless paint sprayers or hvlp paint sprayers for kitchen cabinets?

If we are talking about overall models, then I totally recommend you to go for HVLP. But as I said, there are some airless paint sprayers that are made for small tasks. Just like our #5 choice. So, I recommend that handheld airless paint sprayer before my other HVLP choices.

Is It Better to Spray or Brush Paint Kitchen Cabinets?

Before and after painting my kitchen cabinets with a paint sprayer. You can clearly see the difference. That's why it's important to use a paint sprayer and not a paint roller. My kitchen cabinets now look even better than when I bought them. If you want your kitchen cabinets to look like this then make sure to read our post about the best spray guns for kitchen cabinets

I know that you may have used a paint roller before or some old family members recommended you use paint rollers for cabinets. But, times have changed now. Don’t get me wrong, paint rollers are still great (especially for painting walls). But, when it comes to painting the kitchen, paint sprayers are better.

There are quite a few reasons why people go for paint sprayers instead of paint rollers. One of the many reasons why people go for spray guns is speed.

When people ask me, who is faster a paint roller or a paint sprayer? I usually tell them, who is faster you riding your bike or your friend riding their brand new car on a free road? Obviously your friend. The same goes for paint sprayers vs paint rollers. Paint Sprayers are a lot of time faster than paint rollers.

The “FLEXiO 590 Sprayer” claims that they are 8 times faster than a paint roller, and they are right. If it takes you one week to complete a painting project with paint rollers, it will take you no more than 1 day to complete the same task with a paint sprayer. So, you will be saving 6 days.

Not only the painting process but also the setup process is way faster with a paint sprayer than a paint roller. It will usually take you less than 5 minutes to set up a paint sprayer.

For example, the “Wagner 0529033″ is one of the easiest paint sprayers to set up. You just have to fill the paint [ sometimes maybe thin it too ] and you will be ready to spray. Can you do that with a paint roller? No. I mean maybe you can, but you will create a huge mess.

Another reason why people go for paint sprayers is the finish quality

Finish Quality

If you ever used a paint roller, you will know that they leave a lot of brush marks. Maybe, if you have enough experience you leave fewer brush marks, but still, the finish quality is kinda “low”. On the other hand, paint sprayers provide a better finish quality.

Some of the paint sprayers even provide a fabric-made finish quality. And, for paint spraying cabinets, you don’t need a lot of experience with paint sprayers.

Reading a few guides on our website, watching a few Youtube videos, and practicing is all what it takes for you to spray your kitchen cabinets. And that’s how you save a lot of money by not hiring a contractor.

Clearly, for big painting projects, you need more experience with paint sprayers or may need to hire a painting contractor. But, for kitchen cabinets the learning curve is low.

The only reason why people decide to go for paint rollers instead of paint sprayers is the price.

Here is where paint rollers win. If you have made some diggings you will know those paint rollers are cheap, and paint sprayers are expensive.

But I still think that in the long run, paint sprayers still are cheaper. You get a good finish quality and you don’t have to spray cabinets every year like I used to do when I used paint rollers. That means less money spent.
